Dear Friends

This is not a J-GOP event, but one we encourage your attendance and participation.

Don't miss this opportunity to spend a weekend and connect with like-minded individuals from across the West!

Please join us for the 2015 Western Conservative Summit from June 26-28 at the Colorado Convention Center, hosted by Centennial Institute. Because there have been so many Jewish attendees, for the first time ever there will be a Friday evening/Saturday morning Shabbat service for our guests, under the supervision of Rabbi Zalman Popack.

Licensed child care will be provided; register by June 20th with the promo code 'Mishpocheh,' and you will receive a full weekend pass with a 50% discount.

For additional information, a full schedule, and to register for the event, please visit http://wcs15.co, or contact Dan Kopelman at shabbat@dankopelman.com.

J-GOP Meeting Wed, June 17 - Speaker: William Perry Pendley

Hi Friends,

There are, unfortunately, few legal firms willing to defend individuals against the unlimited resources of Local, State and Federal government. Mountain States Legal Foundation is one of those few firms, we are honored to have the president of that organization, William Perry Pendley as our speaker this month. Mr. Pendley has argued cases before the Supreme Court of the United States as well as various federal courts of appeals; he won what Time called a "legal earthquake" when the Supreme Court ruled in his favor in the historic Adarand (equal protection) case. His monthly column, Summary Judgment, appears throughout the country; he is the author of four books: It Takes A Hero (1994); War on the West (1995); Warriors for the West (2006); and Sagebrush Rebel (2013).

You don't want to miss this great speaker who was featured in GOPAC issue training courses and who is truly devoted to protecting and defending the Constitution of the United States.

BACK BY (WE HOPE!) POPULAR DEMAND:

We will have a group discussion of the issues of the day at the beginning of every meeting! This is your J-GOP and your opportunity to express your opinion on the myriad of issues facing our country and Israel in these challenging times!

Bring an issue or chime in as the moderator introduces a few of the topics that have dominated the news in the past month!  Bring a friend to join in the discussion!

The Jewish Republicans of Colorado is your place to go when your heart and mind is troubled by current events.  Remember, YOU ARE NOT ALONE!
----------------------
We are once again promotional partners for the Centennial Institute's Western Conservative Summit on the weekend of June 26 through 28 (http://www.ccu.edu/centennial/western-conservative-summit/). This year we have not only purchased booth space, but have been working with the local Chabad to accommodate Jewish participants beyond having kosher meals to having an organized Friday evening candle lighting, minion and Kiddush as well as an early Shabbat service and Kiddush. For security and planning reasons, they can not have people at the conference center that are not attending the conference, however, anyone in the Jewish community who wants to come to the Summit and the Shabbat can get a Silver Pass (basic ticket into the Summit) for 50% off! Go to the Summit Registration website and select the Silver Pass 50% discount - it's typically just for veterans, educators, and clergy, but because many speakers would be missed by those attending services, they are making this discount available (use promo code "Mishpocheh").

For attendees, there is a special hotel rate at the Hyatt Regency directly across from the Colorado Convention Center (https://aws.passkey.com/event/11270643/owner/21829/home) and an assortment of event passes are available here: http://www.yesevents.com/wcs2015.

We have 4 credentials to the exhibitor area and need volunteers. Please let me know by replying to this email if you can help out during the weekend.

Please join us for the June 17 meeting and bring a friend as well as your questions and comments.

If you have not already done so, remember dues are due. If you have not paid the $36, please visit www.j-gop.com and do so at your soonest convenience. Anyone wishing to be on the board, or who would like to take on the role of outreach and/or programming should reply to this email.

Sincerely,
Dan Kopelman
J-GOP President

The President’s Lowest Ebb - The New York Sun

The President’s Lowest Ebb

The Supreme Court ruling in the so-called Jerusalem passport case certainly hands a disappointing bar mitzvah gift to Menachem Binyamin Zivotofsky. He is the American who was born at Jerusalem in 2002 and sought American papers listing his birthplace as Israel. He acted under a law passed almost unanimously by Congress requiring that such papers be granted. It took two trips to the Supreme Court for the judicial branch to reach a conclusion, and the youngster lost.
To the young man — and his heroic parents — all Americans who love Israel owe a debt of thanks. We were rooting for them all the way. But it may yet be that in the long run the big winner in the case will be the Jewish state. For one result of Zivotofsky v. Kerry, as the case came to be called, will be that those Americans born in Jerusalem who want documents listing their birthplace as Israel will have to become Israelis. That is, in a way, a restatement of the raison d’etre of Zionism.
